Electrical Upgrades

Electrical upgrades, done in-house.

Solar, a battery, and an EV charger all put new demands on your home’s electrical system — and sometimes an older panel or service can’t safely carry the load. ETW Energy handles most of that electrical work in-house, so your project is designed, upgraded, and inspected as one job instead of being handed off to a separate electrician.

Doing the electrical ourselves is how we keep quality high and timelines tight: no waiting on a third party, and no finger-pointing when something needs to pass inspection.

What a Main Panel Upgrade (MPU) is — and when you need one

Your main electrical panel is the hub that distributes power through your home. Solar, batteries, and EV chargers can push an older or smaller panel past its safe capacity, so it needs to be upgraded to a higher-rated panel before the new equipment goes in.

Not every home needs one. Whether yours does depends on your panel’s amperage, its current loads, and what you’re adding. We assess it during design and tell you up front — if an upgrade is required, it’s in your quote from the start, not a surprise mid-project.

Electrical work we handle

As a licensed electrical contractor, we handle the electrical side of most projects ourselves:

  • Main panel and service upgrades to support solar, storage, and EV charging
  • Sub-panels and load management for whole-home backup
  • Wiring and interconnection for solar and battery systems
  • EV charger circuits and dedicated outlets

One team, one accountable install

When the same company designs your system, does the electrical, and handles the install, the whole project moves faster and passes inspection more reliably. There’s no scheduling gap between an installer and an outside electrician, and no one to point fingers at if the utility or inspector flags something. We own the outcome from design to activation.

Frequently asked questions

Will I need a Main Panel Upgrade for solar or a battery?

Sometimes. It depends on your panel’s capacity, your current electrical loads, and what you’re adding. We assess it during design and, if an upgrade is needed, include it in your quote up front — no surprises later.

Do you do the electrical work yourselves?

Mostly, yes. As a licensed electrical contractor, we handle most electrical work in-house — panel upgrades, interconnection, and EV charger circuits — rather than subbing it out, which keeps quality high and the timeline tight.

Can you upgrade my panel for an EV charger even without solar?

Yes. We handle panel and service upgrades and EV charger circuits as standalone electrical work, whether or not you’re adding solar.

Why does adding solar or a battery affect my electrical panel?

Solar, batteries, and EV chargers add new sources or loads to your electrical system. If your panel is older or near capacity, it may not safely handle them, so it needs to be upgraded to the right rating before the equipment goes in.
