Solar installation across Utah.

ETW Energy installs solar and battery storage for homes across Utah’s Wasatch Front, from design and permitting through installation. Where you live in Utah changes how your solar is credited — and therefore how a system should be sized.

Utah has an excellent solar resource, but in much of the state the economics reward using your own power over exporting it, which is central to how we design here.

The Utah solar landscape

Most of Utah — including the Salt Lake City area — is served by Rocky Mountain Power, which uses net billing that credits exported solar below the retail rate. That favors designing around self-consumption, often paired with a battery. Several cities run their own municipal utilities with different, sometimes more favorable, rules: Provo City Power nets close to retail, and much of Lehi is served by Lehi City Power.

Because the rules can differ by address, the first step in Utah is confirming exactly which utility serves your home, then designing to its current terms.

Solar in Utah — common questions

Does every Utah city have the same net metering?

No. Most of Utah is on Rocky Mountain Power’s net billing, which credits exports below retail. Municipal utilities like Provo and Lehi set their own rules — sometimes more favorable — so the design should match your specific utility.

Is a battery worth it in Utah?

Often, in Rocky Mountain Power territory, where exported power is credited below retail — a battery lets you use more of your own production. In near-retail municipal areas like Provo, a battery is more about resilience than economics. We’ll model it for your home.
