Solar installation in Los Angeles.
ETW Energy installs solar and battery storage for homes across Los Angeles. There is an important wrinkle here that a lot of solar companies get wrong: much of LA is served by LADWP, a municipal utility, which runs its own net-metering program and is not governed by the NEM 3.0 rules that apply to California’s investor-owned utilities.
That distinction changes the design, so the first thing we confirm is which utility serves your home.
LADWP vs. NEM 3.0 — why it matters
Under LADWP’s municipal program, solar economics can look different from the NEM 3.0 picture that dominates California headlines. For homes on Southern California Edison, NEM 3.0 applies and a battery is usually essential. We design to whichever set of rules actually governs your address.
Storage for value and resilience
Even where net metering is favorable, a battery adds resilience against outages and wildfire-related public safety power shutoffs, and helps you use more of your own production. We size storage to your goals and your utility’s rules.
Solar in Los Angeles — common questions
Does NEM 3.0 apply to me in Los Angeles?
It depends on your utility. LADWP, which serves much of LA, runs its own municipal net-metering program and is not under NEM 3.0. Homes on Southern California Edison are under NEM 3.0. We confirm yours before designing.
Should I get a battery in Los Angeles?
Often yes — for resilience against outages and public safety power shutoffs, and to use more of your own solar. Whether it is essential for the economics depends on whether you are on LADWP or SCE.
